Your take on the opposite of love being indifference (and not hate) strikes a deep truth—at least to my way of thinking. I believe Nature is indifferent to us. Deep Time is also indifferent to us. The natural laws are what they are. Nature is inextricably bound into the laws that rule in our universe. We arose under natural law. And as long as we stayed within the bounds of the law we survived under the cloak of indifference. We have upset the balance. And it won’t be hate that takes down our current constructs of civilization, it will be the indifference of the natural laws. Unfortunately for the other species of life we have impacted the natural indifference will also sweep over the entire biosphere like a super villain with the energy and profound power of deep time that holds all the parameters of destruction and rebirth.
