You descriptions of nations as political, economic and military categories have merit within a conceptual exercise. But any categories that are descriptive in this moment will not apply for any significant amount of time. Mother Nature is moving us along as we assault the global atmosphere with ever increasing levels of CO2 that have not been seen in prior human history (only in much warmer periods of Earth history). The organizing relationships of nations, states, and local communities will dramatically change just as our living conditions and survival will be changing. Our whole conceptional framework of political and economic paradigms for survival during the climate upheaval that is unfolding now (and that will be accelerating this decade and beyond) will be tested in ways for which we have no history or experience. All political and social ideals of unlimited growth in a equitable democratic world are in the process of being shattered by nature’s constraints and brutal reality.
