You are an excellent writer. And humorous. I have no plans to visit India. But if I go I will avoid the northern urban areas if possible. Fellows in medicine from India have resided in my home while completing a 6-month period of advanced studies. They are lovely people. Of course, as professionals they were not poor and also well educated. The poorest of India have a great struggle. Living poor in a densely populated urban landscape just adds to the struggle. And also the caste system is a cultural impediment to social mobility. And yet, the history of India is ancient and part of our human heritage. Maybe Bollywood is a better place for a westerner to visit.
