Yes, the Earth has its long life cycles that are independent of human action. Human history over the millennia has been shaped by the natural cycles of ice and warmth. That doesn’t mean that in our current moment of living on Earth we have not developed powerful processes of economics, social organization, technology, overconsumption, and a philosophy of unsustainable growth that harm our place in the good graces of the extant biological community and its collective consciousness. Human activity is dramatically harming the planet, and the planet is reacting.
