We are facing difficult times, Mike. I agree with you on that conclusion. I have a hope that somewhere along the path of decline there will be random opportunities for some fraction of humanity to forge new paradigms of survival that will allow for our experiment with advancing knowledge and equality to continue. Whether or not my hope is rational I cannot say.
