The interconnected needs (both know an unknown) of producing enough energy for a continuous-growth global economy create a collective challenge to any successful transition to a “clean energy” future on a planet with 8 billion (and growing) consumers. We have set up a conflict of unsustainable growth against the hard limits of a closed biosphere.
