Thank you for providing a reasoned analysis of how and why world energy costs will keep rising and economic decline is unavoidable as the climate emergency we are living with continues to accelerate. A recent article authored by some concerned scientists mentioned “the four horsemen of the climate endgame.” The four endgame “vectors of death” highlighted by the scientists are: famine, extreme weather, conflict, and diseases spread by insects. Of the four vectors, the one that is the most politically and emotionally driven is “conflict”. The graph you use near the end of your article projects a cluster of manic lines to illustrate all the negative impacts of our near future. It seems likely that during the time of most chaotic fear and decline there will be major conflicts on a global scale—and probably nuclear (certainly with use of strategic nuclear weapons in battle). If scientists are seeing the danger, and even writers on Medium are able to make cogent arguments about the inevitability of the unprecedented danger that is impacting humanity (and other life), then surely there are very powerful and militarily well-armed governments that also understand what’s happening to energy, resources, and political stability. In my opinion, one or two or three of said governments are going to make a move soon to grab what’s possible for some kind of “hunker down” strategy to weather inevitable chaos while hoping to be the last “modern” society left to rule the coming age that awaits somewhere beyond our current extinction event. It ain’t gonna be pretty.
