Tessa, I agree with your assertion that there will be a Republican takeover of democracy in America so that at the federal level all power becomes concentrated to serve the white power structure. The United States constitution is set up to preserve elite, minority rule as you point out. Where I disagree with you is on the matter of every state in the US being subject to the harsh outcomes you project. I say this because for the anti-democracy party (the Republicans) to hold federal power they are in the process of putting States Rights ahead of federal authority beyond the basics of a national currency, a federal military, and interstate commerce, etc. The social aspects of federal power will be stripped out so that individual states (Texas, Florida, and so on) can be as draconian toward their “unworthy” residents as they like without the federal authorities blocking all the hate. On the opposite side of the political divide, liberal states will hold on to democratic ideals. There will be stark divisions of how people enjoy human rights within the United States, but oppression won’t be monolithic. It’s going to be a problem for transnational corporations, nation-wide business models, and professional sports to navigate. The states that become extreme abusers of human rights may find that boycotting becomes a powerful weapon for punishment. The USA is too large geographically and too diverse in its population for the rich white guys to control everything and everyone from Washington DC. The individual states will reimagine how to go forward while striving to keep the necessary parts of our national government from falling away. I do agree with you that nuclear confrontation during the political turmoil will be a grave possibility; but a war result is not in the interests of the elites or anyone.
