Russia is taking the nuclear power plants in Ukraine. The implication is that the power stations are an added nuclear option to threaten Europe with radioactive contamination short of exploding tactical nukes. Russia will take Ukraine brutally with a campaign of constant death to demoralize the population. The West is only left with the option of accepting the resulting millions Ukrainian refugees. Putin is willing to push out (or kill) all of the native Ukrainians so that the territory can be absorbed as historical Russia populated by Russians. In addition, over the next 8 years or so our global climate emergency will change all calculations about survival and what geographic places on Earth are viable for human economy and life for the decades going forward. Other actors may also get into the game before our rapidly warming home reshapes all assumptions and relationships. We are in the mourning phase of loss that is inevitable.
