Richard, this article is an excellent summary of the journey of climate science. You clearly and convincingly show (to me) how the resistance for acceptance of the bad situation we are in has been a deeply human and tragic occurrence. Your reference to Jimmy Carter really hit a chord with me because I was still young and getting into my working career when all of the oil turmoil and gasoline rationing took place. I supported Carter and had a real fear for what was being said about the potential for global warming. But, like you say, people just did not want to accept any talk of sacrifice to save the planet. The whole idea of an ice age returning was welcomed as a counterpoint to any talk about global warming. We had a life style to go after and we didn’t want naysayers spoiling the fun. Now the payment for the good times is due, and we starting to understand that the collection agent is deadly serious. We will pay with our lives.
