Protesting with direct action is doing something; but if the doom-ride of our carbon economy is unbreakable through politics, it will become necessary for visionaries to devise a rearguard plan that will allow some humans to survive a climate apocalypse while maintaining lessons of history and most of our scientific knowledge in order to reboot our species in a radically altered “next world.” Nature will see to it that our current population of 7 billion people is reduced in wholesale to one billion or less (with luck, maybe not to zero). Nature will see to it that carbon capitalism implodes as a means of organizing human growth and prosperity; and the survivors will have to invent new ways to stay alive. Nature is brutally efficient.
