Perhaps our country has reached a state of polarization that makes deciding who is POTUS by popular vote in each state (via the Electoral College process) no longer viable. Maybe, each state Governor via their own defined process should simply submit a candidate into the Electoral College for a hashing out in the House of Representatives. A person like Trump would never win in that scenario. The winner would have to be able to work well with others and make compromises. This is especially true if going forward from 2020 any general election of a POTUS is going to be questioned and delegitimized from the get-go.
