People have a need for organizing principals and social constructs. Not all people are of equal intelligence or talent. But each person may have a “gift” of presence, money, practical intelligence, or charisma that is beneficial to a “tribe”. Western civilization formed around the philosophies, belief systems, and organizing structures of Christian governance. It is difficult to abruptly transition from ancient and established forms and universally embrace a new social view and support system. Many Christian’s are in the religion because it’s their tradition and social comfort. Obviously, there are also individuals within Christian organizations who act out of malice, and for personal gain. If you find comfort in troupes about an omnipotent God, then one can look at our current crisis of modernity that is being torn apart by our intensifying climate emergency signifying our quickly arriving apocalypse that will certainly reorder our human existence by 2050 or sooner. No religion (new or ancient) or even humanism will have an answer to avert the disasters that are upon us and accumulating in God-like wrath as we continue to distort the energy balance of our natural world in the headlong seeking of unlimited growth powered by fossil fuels and stupidity.
