My thought is that the predatory aspect of the human condition is not the cause of our supercharged trajectory that got us to 8 billion people and the destructive overload of Earth’s natural resources. Our problem exploded with our rash exploitation of carbon power via coal and petroleum. We got hooked on having access to an energy source that allowed us to expand rapidly in overall population while using its creative destruction like spoiled brats on a lottery-paid power trip. The true cost of our misuse of carbon-based power is finally being realized. If we survive Nature’s debt collection maybe we will be able to exist with a much reduced population globally while also figuring out how to achieve a synergy of energy, economics, and political habits that will support an enlightened and stable civilization.
