Mike, as you have pointed in many previous essays you have written, our modern world is driven by interrelated systems that are so complex they have become “hyperobjects” that are obscure and not understandable to the human mind. In the meantime, we have pushed civilization into a complex assault on the biosphere that is accelerating “global boiling”. It seems we are in a race that pits a not fully understandable complex civilization against an evolving climate system that has transitioned to break points that will increase unpredictability for the humans looking to remodel our planetary home using hyperobject technology. We don’t know what we are doing. We are just reacting blindly to our dire situation.
