Let’s consider the ranked topics of political discourse in the US mid-term elections: 1) high gas prices; 2) high interest rates; 3) the increasing cost of goods and services; 4) taxation of the middle class; and perhaps 5) a woman’s right to choose. In that light, any political lurch toward a brutal effort to rip modern society away from reliance on the energy provided by the burning of fossil fuels (which is itself our only currency of life now) will never happen in either democratic or authoritarian societies on a planet with 7 or 8 or 9 billion people. . The brutality of radical change must come from Natural Consequences and the Laws of Nature. The whirlwind will be unleashed. Our human nature locks us in for the inevitable.
