Just a few years ago I was pretty optimistic about the “fix” of technology and human cleverness coming forth to stabilize our CO2 problem in ways that would allow society to avoid crippling collapse. But as empirical evidence has more and more revealed the accelerating catastrophe that has engulfed us with regards to global warming and its interlocking and reinforcing effects I am no longer an optimist in thinking humanity will find a path that can take us away from the suffering that will roll over the entire biosphere of planet Earth in the coming years and decades. Long after billions of humans are dead and entire ecosystems have collapsed, all surviving life will very likely endure hundreds of years of turmoil as the planet moves into a new climate equilibrium. It will probably be a hotter climate for thousands of years. Survivors will adapt and create new epic stories and cultural norms to stay alive on a transformed world.
