It seems to me that mainstream society (our capitalist western society) is latching onto the idea of “climate mitigation” and “adaptation” as acceptable ways to frame actions that are desirable to undertake in the middle of a climate crisis. Such actions fit in well with our capitalist mindset of building by rebuilding, growing by de-growing, and always moving in the direction of future profits. This mindset will not change. We are in a contest with nature. Will the climate emergency accelerate at a pace that will overwhelm society, and thus cause collapse of the capitalist system, or will the capitalist ideal of continuous growth and innovation overcome the natural laws and limits of our closed biosphere? It is a spectacle to behold.
