In my opinion the upcoming elections of 2022 are an inflection point for us to keep our imperfect democracy in America functioning in some semblance of sanity. If the MAGA Republicans win control of Congress (House and Senate) they will immediately move to ensure MAGA also wins the Presidency in 2024. If all control of the federal government goes MAGA in 2024 (even without Trump) the levers of federal power will be profoundly compromised in deliberate ways to intimidate anyone who does not acquiesce to a fascist state that will be defined by white nationalist Christian goals, plus the interests of capitalist oligarchs and fossil fuel barons. This will also mean that any rational response to effectively slowdown our headlong race to a hothouse-Earth-induced civilizational collapse will never get past go. I see the elections of 2022 and 2024 as being the most profoundly important elections in human history. I hope the youth of America (because they are our future) will respond to this critical time in history with passion informed by the climate crisis of our current era.
