I agree with you. The possible curveballs in the Republican goal is that many of their bulwark states become crippled and devastated by the storms, droughts, excessive heat, and fires that will be increasing in occurrence from 2022-2030. After 2030 the climate emergency will go exponential (especially if climate denial is widespread). It will be very difficult for a government, even a revengeful and authoritarian one, to keep control of the population.
